Grand River Raceway is an entertainment, racing, and gaming destination located in Elora, Ontario, Canada. It opened in 2002 with 200 slot machines operated by Ontario Lottery and Gaming. That subsequently increased to 230+ machines. The casino, known as Elements Casino, operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.[1] The Raceway offers seasonal live harness racing (summer), year-round simulcast of racing from across North America, dining and special events.[1]
The property and facilities are owned and operated by the Grand River Agricultural Society (G.R.A.S.) a not-for-profit corporation, incorporated under the Agricultural Societies Act of Ontario and operated by a volunteer board of directors.[2] Best known as a racing, gaming & dining entertainment destination, Grand River Raceway also offers Meetings & Events Services, with rentals of the many rooms and spaces for business events, conferences, parties, complemented by in-house catering. The Society leases space to the OLG for the slot machines; the OLG is the operator and employer for the slots operation.[3]
In 2009, the Raceway paid Centre Wellington $1.6 million in taxes and the OLG paid the Township an additional $1.78 million, from a share of the profits.[1][4]
A plan for substantial expansion was approved by Township Council in February 2017; this is expected to add gaming tables (up to 52) and many slot machines (up to 1200 in total). Some councilors were strongly opposed to the plan. The rationale for the majority decision was the revenue benefit; since the casino opened, the Township has received over $22 million from the Raceway and the OLG's currently small slot machine operation.[5]

This Wednesday is going to be a special day for Elora, as Grand River Raceway will see the official start of its new live season for the 16th consecutive time. Horse people and enthusiasts will have the chance to enjoy live racing on site of the racecourse over the upcoming weeks, in addition to major changes and renovation of Elements Casino adjacent to the racetrack. October will also see renovation work on site of the racecourse.
Every summer is a heated one on site of the racetrack that aims to elevate the horse people’s experience. This happens with live racing events that attract a large crowd of people fond of the activity. What makes it especially attractive to many of them are the childhood memories associated with visiting the racetrack and watching horse races live on site. The official launch of this season will be the 16th one in a row for Grand River Raceway and celebrations are projected to be lavish.
Wednesday Brings First Events

Some 120 guests are expected to make their way to the special event and spend then opening night in good company and experiencing fine cuisine.

Said horses will race in the seventh live race taking place on site, but before that the individuals they are paired with will have the opportunity to meet them and support them before the big race.
This live season is expected to bring bag major events to the likes of Fun & Frivolity Friday Race Night. This congregation has always been a favorite for people attending Grand River Raceway especially because of the Drive a Racehorse. Everyone interested has the opportunity to drive one of the racehorses that have participated in many live events.

The Drive a Racehorse event is possible only with the professional advice and collaboration with a professional driver. For those special Friday events, the racetrack has taken care of parents with young children. They could enjoy The NEIGHbourhood kids’ special area that will offer them entertainment for hours and the constant supervision of reliable staff. In the meantime, Elements Casino has already introduced some new features to its area.
One of the most recognizable ones is the temporary relocation of some of its features. The new 3,200-square-foot First Turn Tent is going to become the temporary home of some of its signature gaming offerings. The special Guest Care Counter that will elevate the pleasant experience on site is among them. In addition to that, the gaming area now features special betting windows, bringing the thrill of wagering even closer to players.
